| Thanks to all those who made a contribution to our efforts this fall. We can take heart that Barack Obama is our new President. We praise the hard work on behalf of local candidates and look forward to the day that our momentum takes us over the top in local races.
To keep our momentum alive during the months that we don't have candidates to work for, I proposed at our November meeting that we take on a project. There was much support for making the environment our focus at a local level. We learned that Pendleton has a program of active recycling. Maybe we can move other towns in Anderson County to take a similar step. Help us plan ways to use our energy and enthusiasm to make a concrete difference in the quality of life in Anderson County. We must also continue our fund raising efforts to prepare for the races which will be run in 2010. We will be electing legislators, a member of Congress, a Governor, a Superintendent of Education and other state offices, county council members, and nonpartisan offices in the cities. Our campaign to have 100 people give at least $100 will begin again on January 1. I plan to write my check that day. Won't you join me? At least as important is the need to recruit candidates to run for these offices. Please consider who would serve us well in these offices and recommend them to our Executive Committee, so that we can begin planning right away. The cause is still as just as it ever was, and the need to be a progressive voice in Anderson County is stronger than ever. Be proud to share with your friends and neighbors that you are a Democrat, and recruit them to join our ranks. Stuart Sprague |
