Earlier this week, the Anderson Independent Mail printed a letter to the editor, submitted by former Anderson School District 5 board member, Lynn Kay. Lynn so perfectly identifies the nature of the current threat to public education, we felt compelled to share her letter with you.
Please forward this to your contact list and help us lend urgency to the importance of electing a State Senator who will support and protect public school education. Then, think about the issue(s) most important to you and consider writing your own letter to the editor. In addition to education, perhaps you share Marshall’s passion for healthcare, economic growth, and/or the environment. A public statement of your thoughts and your support of Marshall is an invaluable way to contribute to the campaign, create awareness, and to make a difference. Let your voice be heard and know how much we appreciate your support!

Meadors will fight for public education
New York real estate investor Howard Rich is trying to buy the South Carolina Legislature. Rich has already given over a million dollars to political candidates through numerous LLC’s and other entities that he owns or controls. He plans to build a legislature that will support his plan to divert public money to private schools and home schoolers through vouchers and tuition tax credits.
Howard Rich’s private school voucher plan can have profound implications for S.C. government, our schools and the integrity of the state.
Our current District 3 Senator, Kevin Bryant, received over $15,000 from the Howard Rich machine to fund his 2004 campaign. On Kevin Bryant’s July 11, 2008 blog, he tells about a trip to NYC to visit his friend Howard Rich.
Bryant openly supports vouchers and tax credits for parents whose children go to private school or are home schooled. Kevin and his wife home school their children.
Dr. Marshall Meadors, a product of S.C. public schools, knows that a quality public education is essential for a full and productive life. Marshall wants every child in Senate District 3 and South Carolina to have access to the kind of quality public education that shaped and formed his life.
Who do you want in the S.C. Senate making decisions for our public schools? I want someone who values quality public school education, rather than one who takes money from a NY carpetbagger. I vote Marshall Meadors for District 3 State Senate.
LYNN KAY, ANDERSON
